Shelter Walk Tracker
A free web app for animal-shelter dog-walking programs.
What it does
Shelters keep track of which dogs have been walked, usually in a spreadsheet on a clipboard or a shared Google Sheet. Shelter Walk Tracker turns that sheet into a phone-friendly roster. Volunteers sign in with Google, see which dogs still need a walk today ordered by urgency and by the color grade they are cleared for, open a dog to read its handling notes, and tap once to log Walk 1, Walk 2, or playgroup. Each log is written back to the shelter's own Google Sheet within a second, so staff who work from the sheet and volunteers who work from the app always see the same state.
Who it is for
Volunteer coordinators at animal shelters and rescues, and the volunteers who walk their dogs. Any shelter can create its own space: sign in, name the shelter, connect an existing Google Sheet or generate a template, and share the link with walkers. Coordinators approve walkers and set their grade; walkers only ever see their own shelter.
How it uses Google
- Sign-in uses your Google account for your name and email address. Nothing else.
- Sheets access is requested only when a shelter admin clicks Connect Google account. The app then reads the connected spreadsheet's dog list and writes single cells back when a walk is logged. It never opens, lists, or changes any other file in your Drive. The optional "Create a sheet for me" button creates one new spreadsheet in your Drive and uses only that.
- The connection can be revoked at any time from the app's Users page or from your Google account permissions.
Cost
Free. It runs on Cloudflare's free tier and each shelter's data stays in its own Google Sheet.
